Community Collaboration

The Canadian Centre for Diversity
The vision of the Canadian Centre for Diversity is: “A Canadian society without prejudice and discrimination. A society that celebrates diversity, difference, and inclusion.” The “Educational Resources” section contains excellent summaries of the different faith traditions involved in the Surrey Neighbouring Faiths Program.

Surrey Public Library
The Surrey Neighbouring Faiths Program, in collaboration with the Surrey Public Library, has developed a series of “Multifaith Booklists for Families”. These booklists have been specially prepared for families to share with young children to develop an appreciation of the religious diversity in our community. These booklist are also excellent resources for preschool programs.

Welcome BC - Welcoming and Inclusive Communities and Workplaces Program

Program Development and Background

Child Honouring
Child Honouring” was developed by Raffi Cavoukian, children’s singer, author, and ecology advocate. Child Honouring is a children-first approach to healing communities and restoring ecosystems. It views how we regard and treat our young as the key to building a humane and sustainable world. It is a novel idea—organizing society around the needs of its youngest members.

Surrey/White Rock “Make Children First” Coalition
The Surrey Neighbouring Faiths Program is inspired by the work of the Surrey/White Rock “Make Children First” coalition. “Make Children First” is a coalition of over 50 community and public agencies in Surrey who are committed to working together with families to improve the health, well-being and learning potential of young children during the first six years of life.

British Columbia Early Learning Framework
The Surrey Neighbouring Faiths Program was developed using the British Columbia Early Learning Framework. The BC Early Learning Framework (PDF) describes the vision, pedagogical principles, and key areas of learning for children birth to five years (before school entry). The framework was developed in partnership with the Ministries of Children and Family Development, Health and Education.
